With Hamden's Anthony Avitable, arguably the best in the state, graduating last year, who's the top netminder this year? |
|
|
|
|
I don't know who the best netminder in the state is, but I can tell you to keep an eye out for Freshman Trevor St. Onge on Watertown. He's competing for the starting spot and I think he'll get it. He came over from the Ct. Clippers. actually, i believe watertown's other goaltender is from clippers pedigree as well.
who are you voting for? |

Hall-Southington is going to have a rough time at goal this year. They have three very young goalies with little experience. That may be good for the program in future years, but this year will be a challenge. |

This seems to be the year of the freshman goalie, Matt Paolini at Trumbull has played well so has Robert Ficarra at Fairfield Co -op |

Paolini looked solid at the Shelton jamboree, didn't realize he was a freshman! |

E.O. Smith's senior David Azinheira seems pretty good...4-0 so far this season! |

Any goalies that deserve our December Player of the Month in CT? |
|
|
|
|
Spencer Sodokoff of Fairfield Prep definitely deserves a look for player of the month. .729 GAA and 2 shutouts already against some top competition in the state |

Anyone on Northwest Catholic's top line...they're all of all state caliber... |

Nathan, I think you focused on player of the month...this is a goalie forum! I definitely think freshmen Louis Dibble from BBD in DIII is worth of the title with a 5-0 record and about an 1.84 GAA! Not bad for his first time in High School hockey. |

Hey John, even though there are several good freshman in D II, the Fairfield freshman, Ficaria, has had a great start, two losses by 2-1, a win 9-1 and win against Branford 2-1, has only let in 5 goals in 4 games, held off Branford 5 on 4 for last 2 minutes, and Paolini at Trumbull is also having a good start |

Ms. Smith: on our freshman goalie Luiz Dibble, thanks for the vote of confidence, Luiz is working hard and doing well in practice to learn the high school game...but, lets not label him "best in the state", please! As his coach, I can tell you he has alot of the qualities needed to "someday" be a very good goaltender but he's only a freshman, he makes "freshman" mistakes and is not in the same class as some of the goalies mentioned here and around the state...yet! Give me another year with him to train...then we'll revisit the "best" label? Thanks! |

I was talking about a program on here called "Player of the Month" which I think your goalie is worth of having. Obviously he's only a freshmen and will make those kind of mistakes but 5-0 at his first chance of being given playing time is great! :) |

Looks like there is a lot of young talent at the goaltender position. I was impressed with the play of both goaltenders at the Hamden vs. Fairfield Prep game on Tuesday night. They didn't steal the show, but both play very solid positionally. |

I have to slightly disagree, they both turned away some tough shots but I saw a major weakness in Sodokoff. I noticed in warmups how poor he was with his glove hand. He also left some very fat rebounds, luckily the Prep D-core was able to clean up his messes. For Hamden, Amarone did not impress me at all. Once prep got the head of steam going early in the second he looked like a deer in headlights and unluckily for him, he didn't have the defensive help that Sodokoff had. |

What about West Haven's goaltender. I'm not quite sure who it is, but i have noticed they have been giving up next to nothing in the goals against column. |

You'll find out which goaltender is best when its over. The one who can carry his team and not look like he does is the one to watch. Marcus Demchak in Milford for one - stands on his head every game, yet the team only has two wins. |

That is very true. The key to being victorious is a solid backbone. Regardless of who the champions are this year in the state, I bet a staple for each team will be a great goaltender. |

I agree with you Mr. Dunn! But it's fun to talk about how these kids are doing at this point in the season. |
