Tyngsboro, MA- The Green Mountain Glades traveled to Tyngsboro, MA to take on the New England Huskies in a two game set.
The Huskies were the team to knock the Glades out of last years playoff hunt in the final week of the 2008-09 season.
The Glades have had trouble thus far performing well in their first game of the weekend, a trend that the Glades were looking to snap in Tyngsboro. Things started out looking positive for the Glades, who were able to notch the games first goal and the lone first period goal that came just as the power play expired off the stick of Michigan native and defensemen Mike Szuma.
This seemed to have awoken the Huskies and their relentless fore- checking of the Glades defensemen. The Huskies were able to tie the game in the second period with a power play goal from Whitney Olson just five minutes in to the period.
The game stayed deadlocked on the score board but the momentum was finding its way onto the Huskies bench. The Huskies then took the lead about half way into the third period and the combination of untimely penalties and lack of execution led to the game to end in a 2-1 loss for the Glades once again in the first game of the weekend series.
Sundays game saw the Glades coming out fast and furious with three goals in just over a four minute span in the first period with two of them coming from Matt Esposito (Fayetteville, NY) and the other on a great shorthanded effort from Nathan Morrill (Sandown, MA).
The Huskies answered just 14 seconds into the second period to cut the lead to two. Zach Vit (Villanova, PA) was able to bring the lead back to three with a goal four minutes after the Huskies.
The game headed into the third with tensions high after some physical play to end the second frame. The Glades had their opportunity to pull away with two early power play opportunities but with some solid goaltending and missed opportunities were unable to which almost came back to bite the Glades as he Huskies were able to score two goals within an 11 second span half way through the final period to cut the lead to one. The Glades were able to fend off the Huskies for the 4-3 win and the weekend split.
The Glades currently stand in third position in the EJHLs Northern Division and have a very tough weekend ahead facing three of the leagues top teams in Syracuse on Friday afternoon, Bridgewater on Saturday and the New Jersey Hitmen on Sunday as a part of the New Hampshire Monarchs showcase held in Hooksett, NH at the Tri-Town Ice Arena.
